NON-CDL/CDL REQUIREMENTS
HOW TO GET STARTED FOR A NON-CDL SET-UP
1) Reliable 3/4 or 1 TON Diesel truck. Has to be 2010 and up.
2) 30-40' trailer with single wheel axles (no dual wheels). Average GVWR of truck and trailer need to be under 26,000 lbs. as a DOT requirement for NON-CDL setups. (Check stickers on both truck and trailer. They need to add up to no more than 25,999 lbs. on GVWR.)
3) Will need 2" or 4" strap x 10 of them and heavy tarps. (Should be able to cover your trailer. For example, if you have a 30' you need a 30'x 15' tarp.) Harbor Freight is where you can find them for a good price.
4) Need to pass a Pre-Employment drug test at a local doctor's office and send results. Results have to be recent after applying for the lease on. DOT Pre-Employment drug test.
5) Medical physical card required by DOT to carry with you in your truck. Ask local doctor about it.
6) Need to have full COMMERCIAL coverage on your truck, 1MILLION LIABILITY AND 100K CARGO. With Cargo Travels LLC as a certificate holder of insurance.
7) Need to have visible DOT name and number on both sides of the truck, stickers decals or white marker, 4 inches tall.
8) You need to be able to track your hours of driving and not do more than 14 hours of driving. That includes loading and unloading. You will need an ELD device!
9) You need a fire extinguisher hung in the truck as well as 3 triangle reflectors in the truck.
10) GVWR for non-cdl should be under 26,000lbs ( truck's GVWR and trailer's GVWR added should be under 26,000lbs.
11) Fill out the application, sign the lease on contract, and fill out a W-9 (1099) and send them back via email.
12) Break away kit connected and hooked up right from the trailer to the truck.
13) DOT Inspections and Annual Federal DOT Inspections for the truck and trailer. ( Any mech shop or truck stop example.. Love's truckstop or TA)

4) Will need to have apportioned plates for running as a commercial vehicle out of state. Could be issued at your local DMV.
5) Need to pass a Pre- employment drug test at a local doctor's office and send results. Results have to be recent after applying for the lease on.
